Breast Cancer facts according to virginia Breast Cancer Foundation


§  This year alone nearly 182,460 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the united states.


§  Approximately 40,480 women will die of this disease each year.

§  90% of all women diagnosed with breast cancer has no family history or known risk factors.

§  It is estimated that 4,680 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in Virginia and 1,140 will die of this disease in Virginia alone.

§  It is believed that 1 in 8 women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time in their lives.

§  Today 2.3 million women in the united states have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

§  About 450 men in the united states will die from this disease.

§  Mammography can detect breast cancer early, earlier detection can save life's.

§  You should start getting mammograms each year at age 40. In less you are at a higher risk of breast cancer, then ask your doctor when you should start getting mammograms. You may need them earlier than 40.

Breast cancer costs the united states more than $6 billion each year in medical costs, but it costs families so much more.
