living with lupus and hair loss

There are many physical changes that occur when you are first diagnosed with lupus. Most people have skin rashes, weight gain ,and  the most up setting is hair loss.

Many times with lupus, your hair loss is caused by the medication given for the disease. Once your lupus is under control your hair loss is mostly reversible.

The steroids and immune suppressive given to treat the lupus can cause hair to become brittle and thin.

Long hair is weaker than short, so you should think about doing a shorter hair do. Do layers to hide thinning or bald patches.

Use a hydrating shampoo. Never use a baby shampoo they claim to be gentle, but they are not.

Use a leave in conditioner, and please avoid any stress to your hair. No curlers, or alcohol base hair care or styling products.

And finally, don't shy away from wearing a hairpiece, hair extensions, or a wig. hairpieces and extensions can be added into thin areas to create a fuller look.

You just have to be sure that these aren't too tight , because tension on weakened hair can also lead to hair loss.

Wigs come in a wide range of styles, colors, and lengths. Don't forget your scalp, keep it dry and remove the wig occasionally to allow skin to breathe.

Whether you decide to go with a wig or a new hairstyle, just remember that there is no wrong way to deal with hair loss. Everyone has their own individual decision.
